Srinagar Boat Tragedy: LG, Div Com, 3 former CM’s among others grieved over loss of lives | KNO

Srinagar, Apr 16 (KNO): The entire Jammu and Kashmir including the civil administration, political parties and others have mourned the death of six persons, who drowned to death on Tuesday morning in boat capsizing incident at Gandabal area of Batwara. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed condolences over the Srinagar boat tragedy. In a tweet, the Lt Governor said: “I am deeply grieved by the loss of lives due to a boat accident in Srinagar. My thoughts are with the bereaved families & I pray to the Almighty to give them strength to withstand this immense loss. Team of SDRF, Army & other agencies are carrying out relief & rescue work.” “Administration is providing all possible help to the bereaved families who have lost their near and dear ones and medical facilities to those who have been injured. Marcos teams have also been alerted. I am constantly monitoring the situation and guiding the team on the ground,” LG said. Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri also expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of lives in an unfortunate incident at Gandabal, Batwara. He also expressed heartfelt condolences with the bereaving families. Beside, the former chief ministers of erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir State and other political leaders across the Union Territory mourned the death of six persons. NC Vice President Omar Abdullah expressed concern over the incident. “Deeply concerned by the reports of a boat capsizing on the river Jhelum at Gandabal, Batwara near Srinagar. I hope & pray that all on board this boat are rescued safely & swiftly,” Omar wrote on X. PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti expressed shock over the incident. “Deeply shocked about the tragedy in Gundbal today. Request @manojsinha_ ji to initiate an enquiry at the earliest to ascertain reasons for the inordinate delay in completion of a footbridge here,” Mehbooba Mufti wrote on X. DPAP Chairman, Ghulam Nabi Azad expressed grief over the loss of lives. “Deeply saddened by the tragic news of 6 dead and 10 missing after a boat overturns in Srinagar. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Thoughts and prayers for the safe recovery of those missing!,” Azad wrote. Peoples Conference (PC) President Sajad Gani Lone extended his heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the devastating boat capsizing incident in Gandbal-Batwara on Tuesday morning. Expressing deep distress over the tragic news, he particularly empathised with the loss of numerous minors in the incident. "It is such distressing news. My heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. So many minors have lost their lives. My prayers and thoughts are with the parents during this unimaginably difficult time," stated Lone. Furthermore, he called upon the administration and SDRF teams to expedite rescue operations and ensure the survivors receive prompt and best possible medical care. He also urged the authorities to provide all possible help to the bereaved families during this difficult time. Apni Party President, Syed Atlaf Bikhari also expressed grief over the loss of lives. “Devastated to hear of the tragic capsizing of a boat carrying several persons, including children, in the River Jhelum near Batwara, Srinagar. The loss of precious lives is heartbreaking. My thoughts and prayers are with the families affected by this terrible accident. Urging the administration to swiftly extend support to those in need,” Bukhari said. CPI (M) senior leader Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami also expressed heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families. “Deeply pained by the boat capsizing tragedy in Batwara. Sending heartfelt condolences to the victims' families. The prolonged construction of a footbridge, lingering for years, highlights a missed opportunity to prevent such tragedies, Tarigami wrote on X—(KNO)
